Programme Validation

Each programme leading to a common award must be validated by FETAC prior to commencing.  Only registered providers, who have agreed quality assurance systems with FETAC may submit programmes for validation.  Applications for validation are made at provider level only

Preparing a programme for submission to FETAC for validation requires implementation of agreed quality assurance systems, in particular, Sections B4, 5 and 6.

FETAC has developed guidelines for providers to assist in preparing for programme validation. These are:

Programme Validation Levels 1 and 2: Provider Guidelines
Guidelines for Preparing Programme Descriptors

For information requirements for applications for programmes leading to major awards and minor/special purpose awards, please refer to appendices 2 and 3 in the Guidelines for Preparing Programme Descriptors.

From time to time FETAC delivers briefing sessions on programme validation. See Briefings for details of the next available briefing session.

Following attendance at the briefings, applications must be made online via the FETAC Business System (FBS). Queries and other communications with the validation team should be made via the ‘Contact Us’ link on the FETAC website, referencing ‘programmes’ in the area box.

Shared Programmes
A shared programme is a programme that is developed for sharing by a number of providers. Providers who wish to offer these programmes should login to the FBS system. Programmes that are available for sharing with them will appear on the left hand column. Providers must then complete the online application process to use the shared programme. This will transfer validation and ownership of the programme to providers directly.

The following programmes are available for sharing with community and voluntary providers that receive funding from the Department of Education and Skills. Providers should contact the validation team via the ‘Contact Us’ link on the FETAC website, referencing ‘programmes’ in the area box. Providers should state that they wish to use a shared programme, indicating the programme and award title.
